Dva Arva

The Arva brand specializes in avalanche transceivers, and has made them available to the general public. Winter sports have always been risky, and in these types of phenomena, sportsmen and women must act quickly and rely solely on their comrades, as statistics show that the victim must be evacuated in less than fifteen minutes. The Arva brand makes this possible with its rescue kit, which includes a shovel, a probe and an Arva device for locating the victim. This equipment is indispensable, and to do without it would be grossly negligent.

Also known as a DVA, the device is a walkman-sized transceiver that links all hikers together. All avalanche transceivers sold in Europe use the same frequency: 457 Khz. With experience and regular practice, you can locate your buddy in under 5 minutes.

The probe, on the other hand, locates the victim definitively and probes the depth of burial to determine the size of the hole to be dug. It can be up to 320 cm long.

The third essential item is the shovel, because once you've located your friend, you'll need to dig him out as quickly as possible. With a shovel, you can clear snow and dig a hole three times faster than by hand. Many shovels are extremely light and strong.

Here are a few essential tips to keep in mind: check that all your equipment is working properly before setting off on a session, as problems can arise quickly. Wear your Arva device next to your skin to avoid the risk of losing it in an avalanche. Practise! You can't understand the Arva system without first trying it out, and the more you practice, the more reactive you'll be when the time comes. Finally, beware of weather conditions: the Arva is not always a guarantee of survival.
